Miguel Cabrera, a Venezuelan baseball legend, has nothing to prove in the 2023 season of the Major League Baseball (MLB). It would be unjust to think that his last year as an active player is a failure just because he has a batting average of .197 and has not hit a home run with the Detroit Tigers yet. Cabrera is already 40 years old and has proved his worth as a player in the MLB. He is the only player to win the Triple Crown of Batting in the last 56 years in North American baseball, which sums up a career full of achievements that will culminate on the day of his induction into the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Fans should just enjoy every hit from this living legend.
On Sunday afternoon, the «Tiger King» had his second multi-hit game of the season, which helped him reach 3,100 hits and get closer to surpassing Dave Winfield’s record of 3,110 career hits. Cabrera, ranked 23rd on the list of players with the most hits in MLB history, became just the third non-US born player to reach this milestone. Only Dominicans Albert Pujols with 3,384 and Adrián Beltré with 3,166 have achieved this feat before the Venezuelan.
Cabrera’s hits in the Busch Stadium in St. Louis were reminiscent of his 400th career home run, as it was another round number reached in the nest of the Cardinals. Though he needs 10 more hits to tie Winfield’s record and 15 more to surpass Alex Rodriguez, Miggy’s goal is to end his golden career with at least 3,150 hits.
Since the modern era of baseball began in 1900, only 18 players, according to the MLB list, have surpassed that hit count, and only Pujols is the Latin representation on the list that is led by the «Hit King» Pete Rose with 4,256 hits.
