Pamela Conti: «A new experience for the Venezuelan women’s team»

The Venezuelan women’s national team will experience something quite unique this week as they play official matches in Venezuela. They will be facing Uruguay in Caracas for a double FIFA date.

«We are very excited and thrilled to be able to play here. We have been asking the Federation for this opportunity for a long time because we believe it is the right moment to feel the support of our fans, to have them close to us,» said coach Pamela Conti in a press conference.

«In Argentina and Colombia, we had to play in front of a packed stadium against us, and now we hope it will be the opposite,» added the coach.

The Venezuelan team has been training in the capital since Monday in preparation for the matches on Thursday and next Monday against Uruguay. The squad consists of players who play for foreign teams.

«I am very happy that many players have recovered from their injuries and are back with the national team. Now we have a more complete team,» Conti remarked.

However, the coach confirmed that Michelle Romero and Mariana Speckmaier will not be able to play in the first match due to muscle discomfort.

On another note, Conti showed her support for Sonia O’Neill, who had hinted at leaving the national team due to mental fatigue after the Central American and Caribbean Games. «Her situation has affected me personally because we have a good relationship. During the games, I protected her as she wasn’t in the right mental state to play. There were things written that didn’t reflect reality,» said Conti.

Regarding the match against Uruguay, Conti revealed that they will continue with the 3-5-2 formation used in El Salvador. «We know our game plan and we won’t get caught up in numbers. The 3-5-2 formation has yielded good results,» she explained.

Furthermore, the coach mentioned that several players who play in Europe, such as Deyna Castellanos, Gabriela García, and Yenifer Giménez, will not be available for the upcoming Pan American Games, which is the team’s next commitment after this FIFA date. «If we don’t win a medal, it will be an experience for the players, giving the opportunity to those who have never played for the national team before,» Conti foresaw.

The Venezuelan national team will face Uruguay this Thursday at 7 PM.
